Fridge Cleaning 101

The start of the New Year is a great time to tackle this often overlooked task – cleaning out the fridge. Here are some tips:

Empty the Fridge

Do this all at once or in sections, but set aside two areas for items: one area for things that need to be cleaned out and discarded and another area for items that need to be put back into the fridge.

Clean Contents

Chances are that your milk carton and pickle jars could use some cleaning too. With a damp rag, wipe the bottoms of items and also clean any drips on the sides. Everything that goes back into the fridge should be clean so you’re not spreading messes around.

Clean the Inside of the Fridge

And now for the best part – remove any shelves and drawers and wipe everything down including the walls of the fridge. Vinegar and water works well for this job. Wash the removed shelves and drawers with warm soapy water and set them aside to dry.

Return Contents

Dry shelves and drawers and return them to the fridge. Then place all of the newly cleaned items back in the fridge in their respective areas.

Wha-la!

Enjoy your clean fridge – hopefully it will last at least until the spring.
